Same Language Subtitling...
What's so great about it?

Please note this is my interpretation and summary of Same Language Subtitling. For specific details and to read relevant research papers, see Planet Read's Research page.

• It can non-literate people up the ladder to early literacy
• It can help people revise and retain that literacy they already have
• It doesn't require people to set aside extra time or money for literacy education
• It reaches whole families at once
• It involves music which has its own mystical powers (!)
• It's fun to sing along!

According to Planet Read's website, 34% of India's population is non-literate and another 50% is 'early literate'. Women make up 70% of this number so the opportunity to provide them with free literacy education in an entertaining manner in their own homes is very attractive!

Same Language Subtitling rocks my world. It combines most of my favorite things: India, Language Learning, Bollywood and the empowerment of women and girls.

The research shows that people can learn to read 'accidentally' (ie. automatically and subconsciously) with Same Language Subtitling, as the eye is automatically drawn to the movement in the subtitle area. And the kids think it's fun because it helps them learn the lyrics of their favorite songs.

So that's why I have chosen Planet Read as my Social Enterprise Partner Organization for the India Travel Secrets website.

How would that be generated? Well, a small amount is generated whenever readers visit any of the links via the Adsense ads on my pages. Also, if you were to purchase your travel items from the ITS online shop or book a holiday via one of the ITS travel partners, a small commission would be generated. There are many links which do not provide any benefit to ITS.

Please note though that I only ever recommend something if I know it's going to be useful to you, and mostly if I've used the product or service myself. There are millions of things I could promote on this site with flashy banner images and popup windows, but if you find them as annoying as I do, I really wouldn't want to do that to you!
